YACHT & SMALL CRAFT SURVEYING

a) PRE PURCHASE:

This survey is normally commissioned by a potential buyer of a particular boat in order to know what is wrong with the yacht in detail.

The primary objective for the survey is to ascertain the structural integrity of the vessel and asses the condition of any systems on board. The requirement is to inspect the vessel out of the water but the inspection should also take place when the vessel is on the water.

b) CONDITION SURVEY:

The condition survey aims to report the condition or particular aspects of the condition of a particular vessel. There has been a tendency for some professional organizations to state that the only way to do a condition survey is their way. Whilst this may have been acceptable some years ago, it totally ignores the fact that a surveyor is working for the client. And if a client wants a survey carried out in a particular way, there is no reason why the client should not receive exactly what is requesting.

c) CONDITION & VALUATION SURVEY

This survey is a combination of a sale and purchase survey with a valuation.

To value the yacht, a base structural survey will need to be carried out, as well as assessing the condition of the systems on board. The actual vessel would then be compared with similar models or designs on the market.

We verify that the vessel follows all federal requirements ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association).  During this inspection, we highly recommend that the vessel is sea trialed and hauled out for bottom inspection.

d) INSURANCE & FINANCE

This survey is often requested by insurance underwriters or financial underwriters to boat owners containing the basic condition and value of the vessel. The survey for insurance is sometimes requested by an insurance company prior to accept a particular yacht for insurance.

e) MARINE CLAIMS

These surveys are normally commissioned by insurance underwriters or insurance managers claims with the purpose to determine the cause, nature and extent of the loss.

When an accident happens, decisions are to be taken with no hesitation before it is too late. Many parties will be involved -, fast and efficient coordination is imperative.

BECAUSE ACCIDENTS CAN AND DO OCCUR!

f) DAMAGE SURVEY

This survey is conducted on behalf of the owner of a vessel in unfortunate circumstances.  During this survey it is our goal to assess the extent of damage and help the owner to understand the correct approach for repairs.
